About Us
Who We Are
The Rotary Club of Muthaiga was chartered on 22nd May 1997 with 38 charter members after successfully establishing a new Rotary club in Nairobi without drawing members from the eight clubs that existed at the time. The official charter night was on 27th June at the Safari Park Hotel. The ceremony was presided over by Chairman John Wright of Westlands Club. This effort helped break the perceived barrier and contributed to the growth of Rotary clubs across the Greater Nairobi area.
For nearly three decades, the club has been actively involved in numerous service projects, including classroom construction and refurbishment, eye camps, Rotary Doctors, PolioPlus, tree planting, a child’s heart surgery in India, vocational training programmes, measles vaccinations, constructing a bridge, various water wells, an irrigation project, and so forth.
The Club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Nairobi and has contributed to the growth of the Rotary family by sponsoring several Interact clubs in schools (Interact Club of ISK, Interact of Loresho, Interact Club of Nderi IF, former Maji Mazuri, former Aga Khan), Rotaract Clubs (Muthaiga, Kirigiti, University of Nairobi Parklands, former Kirigiti, former JKUAT), and Rotary Clubs (Gachie, Kiambu, Nairobi-Connect, Nairobi Madaraka).
Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the Mu…thai…ga tree
We took a trip on a Fellowship
And when we reached Mu…thai…ga
We made a plea.
And I’m glad to say we’re on our way
ROTARY CLUB IS HERE TO STAY
Our hearts are bound our heads are tur…ning aro..und
We hope to bring a little hope to all in town
I must de..clare my heart is there
For the food with friends and fel…low…ship
We thank thee lord for the Ro..ta..ry
And our thoughts that see to the others’ needs
And I’m glad to say we’re on our way
ROTARY CLUB IS HERE TO STAY
Our hearts are bound our heads are tur…ning aro..und
We hope to bring a little hope to all in town.

Our History
Founded in May 1997 by Salim Manji (Charter Chairman), Peter Lewis, and Parvider Chada, the Rotary Club of Muthaiga has spent 29 plus years serving the Nairobi community. The initial meetings, prior to receiving our Charter, were held at the Esso Shopping Mall bar, adjacent to Muthaiga Golf Club. From our early days at Muthaiga Golf Club to Southern Sun Mayfair Hotel to our current home at the Jacaranda Hotel, we remain focused on impactful projects like building classrooms, supporting maternal health, and providing irrigation. We continue to empower Kenyan lives through dedicated fellowship and service.
After almost 29 years, we still have six Charter members amongst our ranks: Robert Foulser, Gerald Nyaguto, Sundeep Raichura, Kaushik Manek and Peter Hurst.
At one time Rotary Club of Muthaiga held the Regional record of having the most married couples, all of whom were Rotarians in their own right, at six couples.
Several of our members have taken on District level appointments including Assistant Governors, County Chairs, District Governors (Kaushik, Geeta, Obath, Jimia) and Rotary Trustee (Geeta).
